Soyoon Yim

Piano

Soyoon Yim was born in Seoul, South Korea, and began her piano studies at the age of five, with her mother as her first piano teacher. Her strong musical background continued with studies at Yewon School, Seoul Arts High School and Kyungwon University in South Korea.

In the United States, Soyoon attended Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore (she was admitted solely on the basis of her audition recording, the only student to be so honored). Soyoon was chosen to study with Leon Fleisher for two years at his master classes.

After earning her Master of Music degree and Graduate Performance Diploma at Peabody, Soyoon continued her studies at University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), where was awarded an Accompanying Assistantship with full scholarships and stipend. She is currently completing her Doctor of Musical Arts program in piano under the tutelage of Eugene and Elizabeth Pridonoff.

As a soloist and chamber musician, Ms. Yim has performed at numerous solo and chamber recitals in the U.S., South Korea, Japan, Belgium and the Czech Republic, including her New York debut at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall in May 2006. In June 2007 she will return to Carnegie Hall for a solo recital. Orchestral appearances include University of Cincinnati Symphony, CCM Korean Students Chamber, and New Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. Soyoon has also won numerous piano competitions including Bradshaw and Buono International, Artists International, Samick, Choon-choo, The Korea Times and Chosun. She has been selected to compete at the Iowa Piano Competition and the New Orleans International Piano Competition.

Ms. Yim was also invited to participate in music festivals throughout the U.S., South Korea and Europe, including the Aspen Festival, Oregon Bach Festival and Las Vegas Music Festival. At the festivals, she was selected to work with world-eminent pianists such as Claude Frank, Jerome Lowenthal, Julian Martin, John O’Conor, John Perry and Nelita True.

Soyoon is also affiliated with Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), Ohio Music Teachers Association (OMTA), College Music Society (CMS) and Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA).
