Beth Sedgwick

Piano

Beth Sedgwick began playing the piano when she was five years old. Her father was a jazz musician and played by ear, and — early on — Beth showed that she had inherited this gift. She studied classical music for eleven years and enjoyed making her own arrangements of popular music. She gave piano lessons to friends and neighbors while she was in school.

In college, Beth studied to be a nurse, and received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. Music was also her passion, and she has played piano for her church her entire lifetime. She enjoys playing for weddings. She has played at the Hall of Mirrors and at Peterloon for different events, and has performed concerts for various church groups.

Beth has been teaching piano for more than 20 years, and has a great love for her students. Helping her students find joy in music is extremely important to Beth. She wants all of them to achieve their highest potential and to learn how to express themselves creatively and artistically. Beth uses traditional teaching methods and also helps students to develop their ability to compose music. She teaches classical, popular, church music, jazz and any style students are interested in.

Many of Beth’s students participate in the National Music Certificate Program (formerly called RACE program), sponsored by Ohio Music Teachers Association (OMTA). Beth finds that this program is very challenging and rewarding for the students.

Beth conducts winter and spring recitals, and encourages her students to participate in a variety of events, including Junior Music Experience Evaluations and such OMTA events as the popular Halloween event, “Masquerade Musicale,” and the Showcase Recitals at the Cincinnati Art Museum and Aronoff Center.

Beth and her husband Dick have two grown boys and three precious little granddaughters that they love to babysit. They have two Persian cats — one of which is very fond of classical music!
