Cincinnati Music Academy offers private instruction in rock, blues, jazz, classical, finger style, folk, and other popular styles. Instruction is available on acoustic and electric guitar, electric and upright bass. Students of all ages and levels of experience are accepted. Many of the instructors are alumni of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). The studios are very spacious, professionally cleaned, and allow seating for family members to observe lessons.

Students are able choose from a variety of subjects involved with the guitar and bass. They include:

  • Strumming and finger-picking
  • Improvisation
  • Reading chords and music
  • Music theory on the guitar
  • Playing “by ear”
  • Composition
  • Learning From recordings
  • Performance skills

All Cincinnati Music Academy guitar students can sign up for free group classes throughout the year.

Joel Greenberg,
Department head.

Joel helps his students gain a complete knowledge of the guitar through learning music they enjoy. He specializes in rock, jazz, blues, finger-style and folk music.

Scott Bruce,
Guitar

Scott specializes in classical and finger-style folk guitar. His program is open to adults and young people at least in the third grade. Lessons cover technique, repertoire and music theory.

Wes Davidson,
Guitar

Wes specializes in teaching younger students from the age of four. Lessons focus on ear training, reading music and advancing towards self-expression through music. Also offered for more advanced students are lessons including musical theory, song writing and reading music.

Don Gauck,
Guitar

Don teaches a variety of styles from punk to bluebrass to jazz. A professional working musician, he employes many techniques in his lessons, including theory, ear training and improvising.

Max Gise,
Guitar

Max teaches rock, jazz, finger-style, blues and classical guitar. Other lesson subjects include music theory, improvisation, and reading music. Beginners to advanced. Adults and children over ten.

Matt Holt,
Acoustic and electric bass

Matt teaches bass with a strong emphasis on practical skills, including ensemble playing, reading music, improvisation, and listening skills. He enjoys teaching students of all levels and aspirations.
